The Island
Gan is one of the largest natural islands in the Maldives — long, green and unhurried, on the eastern rim of Laamu Atoll in the country's deep south.
Laamu — known traditionally as Haddhunmathi — is an atoll of long islands and open ocean. Gan's beach runs on and on, the reason for our name: an unbroken sweep of sand where turtles nest and the crowds never arrive.
A causeway links Gan to Fonadhoo and to Kadhdhoo's domestic airport, so the wild south is only a short flight from Malé — and the surf here is counted among the best in the Maldives.
